NaNoWriMo: Zoonosis Day 12 & 13

I’m getting sloppy here, and not even remembering to put up what I wrote during a day… This NaNoWriMo is really taking a toll on me!  At the end of Day 13, I’ve got 19,006 words, which is 2,800 words behind schedule.  In theory, I should be able to catch up.  But the trouble is that tomorrow, that figure become almost 4,500 words.  That’s about 10 pages of writing!

Here’s a sample from today:

As the islands dwindled on the horizon, one of the ship’s cartographers approached Estâvão and inquired how he should label the newly discovered landmasses. On the heels of so many days on the open ocean, the barren island had rankled the captain. The high cliffs and empty plateau had reminded him of his lofty cousin, so high above everyone else, so completely unwelcoming.

“Call it Ilha Vasco da Gama,” said Estâvão.

Keeping my nose to the grindstone…
